Sheffield Hallam Universityمعرفی
Gabriella Penitente is a Senior Lecturer in Sport and Exercise Biomechanics at the Department of Sport, Sheffield Hallam University since 2010. She leads the BSc (Hons) Sport and Exercise Science program and teaches across undergraduate and postgraduate modules including biomechanics, performance analysis, and research methods. Her academic journey includes roles as Teaching Fellow at Abertay University (Dundee) and Teaching Assistant at the University of Bologna, where she earned her BSc, MSc (summa cum laude), and PhD in Sport and Exercise Biomechanics (2008). During her doctoral studies, she worked at the US Olympic Training Centre (2007–2008).
Her research focuses on biomechanics in aesthetic/acrobatic sports (gymnastics, diving, ballet) and technical sports, with emphasis on injury prevention and performance enhancement. Key areas include handspring vault mechanics, gait analysis in children (especially footwear effects), and elite athlete movement patterns.
Publications highlight work on spinal stretching risks in gymnasts, impact forces during vaults, and ballet dancer postural control. She has contributed to international conferences and peer-reviewed journals. Current interests include low-cost biomechanical measurement tools and applied work experience in sports science education.
