Tyler Helms is an Instructor of Trumpet at Arkansas State University, affiliated with the College of Liberal Arts and Communication, Department of Music. He is an active performer and music educator with significant involvement in orchestral, jazz, and chamber music settings.
His educational background includes a Master of Music in Trumpet Performance from Arkansas State University (2021) and a Bachelor of Music Education from Stephen F. Austin State University (2019). He is currently ABD in a Doctor of Musical Arts program at the University of Memphis.
Tyler's research and performance interests center around trumpet performance, contemporary solo works, extended techniques, and innovative chamber music collaborations. He is passionate about music education and expanding opportunities for young trumpet players in underserved communities.
His performance career includes principal roles with the Delta Symphony Orchestra and the Corinth Symphony Orchestra, appearances with the Memphis and Arkansas Symphony Orchestras, and active freelance work in the Memphis area. He also performs as a lead trumpeter in jazz and commercial ensembles.
Tyler co-founded and serves as Co-Chair of the International Trumpet Guild’s Pre-professional Committee, which supports the next generation of trumpet players through global educational and professional development initiatives.
He maintains a private studio where he mentors students who have succeeded in state competitions, festivals, the National Trumpet Competition, and college scholarship placements.
