Dr. Tony Robertson is a Lecturer in Geographies of Public Health at the University of Stirling's Biological and Environmental Sciences department. His research focuses on socioeconomic inequalities in health, commercial determinants of health, and community-based approaches to reducing health disparities. He has held roles such as Deputy Chair of the Faculty Athena SWAN Implementation Group and is an External Examiner for UCL's Social Epidemiology MSc.
Education: PhD in Behavioural Ecology, followed by a shift to public health research through a MRC/CSO Career Development Fellowship. He has held positions at the University of Glasgow and University of Edinburgh before joining the University of Stirling in 2016.
Research Interests include the biological pathways linking socioeconomic status to health (e.g., allostatic load, telomere length), commercial determinants of health inequalities (e.g., food advertising), and community resilience to extreme events. He co-leads the Extremes in Science and Society research programme and contributes to the Healthy Environments: Sustainable Societies research theme.
His work emphasizes interdisciplinary collaboration, leveraging biomarkers and quantitative methods alongside community engagement. Recent articles highlight topics like plastic pollution in Malawi, ambulance care for back pain, and wellbeing economy strategies. He actively supervises PhD students focusing on health inequalities and is involved in initiatives like the Scottish Ambulance Service clinical response model evaluation.
Professional Roles include Executive Editor of the journal Longitudinal and Lifecourse Studies, and Honorary Treasurer of the Society for Longitudinal and Lifecourse Studies. He advocates for policies addressing health equity through participatory research approaches.
