Dr. Elise Whitley is a Medical Statistician at the MRC/CSO Social and Public Health Sciences Unit and the School of Health & Wellbeing at the University of Glasgow. She holds an honorary Lectureship at the University of Bristol. Her expertise lies in statistical epidemiology, focusing on lifecourse health, socioeconomic inequalities, and aging. She has a BSc in Mathematics (University of Newcastle), a PhD in Number Theory (University of Exeter), and an MSc in Medical Statistics (London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine).
Her research interests include understanding determinants of successful aging, mental health disparities, and the impact of socioeconomic status across lifecourses. Key areas of study involve neighborhood effects, urban planning, and the role of public health policies in addressing health inequities. She has contributed to major longitudinal studies like the West of Scotland Twenty-07 Study and the UK Household Longitudinal Study (Understanding Society).
Recent work explores factors influencing older adults' mobility, mental health during the pandemic, and the interplay between urban environments and health behaviors. Her publications emphasize methodological rigor in addressing complex health questions, such as data imputation and sensitivity analyses.
