Baowen Xue

Baowen Xue is a Lecturer in Quantitative Methods & Social Epidemiology at University College London (UCL) within the Department of Epidemiology and Public Health. She serves as Co-Director of the MSc in Social Epidemiology and contributes to teaching through leadership roles in modules such as 'Social Epidemiology: Dimensions of Inequality' and 'Social Determinants of Global Health.' Her work bridges academic research and policy, notably as a Fellow of the Understanding Society Fellowship Programme.

Xue’s research examines how paid and unpaid work—including retirement, flexible working, and informal caregiving—affect health and well-being over the life course. Her work emphasizes cross-national comparisons, social determinants of health, and gender inequalities. She is affiliated with the Equalise: ESRC Centre for Lifecourse Health Equity and the earlier ESRC International Centre for Life Course Studies (ICLS).

Recent publications focus on longitudinal analyses of caregiving transitions, mental and physical health outcomes, and socioeconomic disparities. Her studies utilize datasets such as the UK Household Longitudinal Study, Survey of Health, Ageing and Retirement in Europe (SHARE), and the Whitehall II study.
