Timothy Yontz is a Professor at the Bower School of Music & the Arts, Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU). He holds a Ph.D. in Administration, Curriculum, and Instruction in Music from the University of Nebraska (2001), a Master of Music from Butler University (1990), and a Bachelor of Music Education from Indiana University (1984). His research and teaching focus on instrumental music education, conducting techniques, and wind band instruction, emphasizing nonverbal communication in conducting and administrator-student relationships.
Dr. Yontz has presented at conferences on topics such as Laban-based movement principles for conductors and strategies for effective school administration. His awards include the Senior Service Achievement Award (2016-2017) and induction into the University of Nebraska at Omaha Band Hall of Fame. He teaches courses in wind orchestra performance, instrumental music pedagogy, and conducting. Outside academia, he enjoys outdoor activities like backpacking, camping, and pickleball.
