Dr. Timothy Shade is an Associate Professor and serves as Director of the School of Music, Director of Bands, and Coordinator of the Graduate Wind Conducting Program at Wichita State University. He previously held roles including Music Director of the Alhambra Orchestra, Visiting Director of Orchestras at Florida Atlantic University, and Director of Instrumental Music at Bethel College. Shade is renowned for his dynamic conducting, innovative programming, and contributions to music education.
Research & Performance: Shade specializes in orchestral and wind ensemble conducting, promoting new music through over 25 commissions and premieres. Notable works include the North American premiere of Adam Gorb's 'The Path to Heaven' and the world premiere of James Syler's 'Symphony No. 2'. As a performer, he excels in euphonium and jazz trombone, collaborating with ensembles like the Wichita Wind Ensemble and the University of Miami Symphonic Winds.

Ensembles & Projects: Under his leadership, the WSU Wind Ensemble earned the 2018-19 American Prize and performed at national conferences. Current projects include collaborations with Ion Concert Media’s Muséik software for live media-synchronized performances and audience-participation works by Derek Jenkins.
