Tian Zhang

Tian Zhang, M.D., M.H.S., is an Associate Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, specializing in Hematology and Oncology. She serves as Associate Director of Clinical Research at the Simmons Comprehensive Cancer Center and Director of Clinical Research in the Division of Hematology and Oncology. Her work focuses on genitourinary malignancies, including kidney, prostate, bladder, and testicular cancers, emphasizing clinical trials, biomarker evaluation, and immunotherapy advancements.

Dr. Zhang earned her medical degree from Harvard Medical School and completed residency and a hematology-oncology fellowship at Duke University, where she also obtained an M.H.S. in Clinical Research. She is certified in medical oncology by the American Board of Internal Medicine and holds leadership roles in professional organizations like the American Society of Clinical Oncology and Society for Immunotherapy of Cancer (SITC).

Her research interests span clinical trial design, biomarker discovery, and combination therapies for GU cancers. Notable achievements include the 2021 Cancer Prevention & Research Institute of Texas Rising Stars Award and co-PI roles on multiple DOD/NCI grants. She leads multidisciplinary teams to advance data-driven care and has authored over 120 peer-reviewed publications. Dr. Zhang also chairs the NCI Genitourinary Steering Committee’s Renal Task Force and contributes to clinical guidelines for ASCO and SITC.

Her laboratory investigates biomarkers in GU cancers and explores novel therapeutic strategies. She advocates for equitable access to immunotherapies and addresses disparities in treatment utilization through collaborative, multi-institutional studies.
