Toni Choueiri

Toni Choueiri, MD, is the Jerome and Nancy Kohlberg Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School and Director of the Lank Center for Genitourinary Oncology at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. He also serves as Medical Director of International Strategic Initiatives at Dana-Farber and co-leader of the Kidney Cancer Program at Dana-Farber/Harvard Cancer Center. His research focuses on novel therapies and biomarkers for genitourinary cancers, particularly renal cell carcinoma (RCC). Dr. Choueiri has pioneered treatments like Cabozantinib, Avelumab+Axitinib, and Pembrolizumab+Lenvatinib, leading to FDA approvals. He holds leadership roles in national committees, including the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) Kidney Cancer Panel and the National Cancer Institute (NCI) GU Steering Committee.

Education: MD from Saint Joseph University Faculty of Medicine; residency and fellowship in Internal Medicine and Medical Oncology at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation.

Research interests include epidemiology, diagnosis, and treatment outcomes of GU cancers, with seminal contributions to the International Metastatic RCC Database Consortium. His work integrates immunogenomics and clinical trials, resulting in over 800 PubMed publications and multiple national/international trials. Awards include the George Canellos Award (2013), Eugene Schonfeld Award (2016), and induction into the Giants of Cancer Care (2021).

Grants: Supported by NCI, Department of Defense (DOD), American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), and industry partners. His lab, Choueiri Lab, focuses on translational research to improve outcomes for GU cancer patients.
