Tham Kum Ying

Professor Tham Kum Ying serves as Assistant Dean (Year 5) and Education Director at the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine, NTU, alongside her role as Senior Consultant at Tan Tock Seng Hospital. Her academic journey includes an MBBS from the National University of Singapore (1988), FRCSed (A&E) from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (1993), MSc in Training and Human Resource Management (Distinction, University of Leicester, 2006), and a Doctorate in Education (2016).

Her leadership spans national healthcare education systems: she led faculty development programs as Associate Dean and Director of Clinical Training (2007–2010), later advancing to Assistant Chairman of the Medical Board (Education) and Education Director of Tan Tock Seng Hospital’s Pre-Professional Education Office. Internationally, she spearheads capacity-building projects in emergency medicine in Malang, Indonesia, and rural Sichuan, China.

Research focuses on trauma resuscitation and medical professionalism education. Awards highlight her teaching excellence and contributions to healthcare, including recognition for SARS crisis leadership and NHG citizenship (2006).

Her career has emphasized advancing clinical training, medical education innovation, and global healthcare collaboration through interdisciplinary projects.
