Tanushree Bhan is a Research Fellow in the Hubert Department of Global Health at Emory University's Rollins School of Public Health. She holds a PhD from the University of Massachusetts Boston, an MA from the University of Mumbai, and a BA (Honors) from the University of Delhi.
Her research focuses on gender inequities, sanitation policy, women’s health, and social determinants of health. She employs mixed-methods approaches to study how public policies address poverty, environment, and empowerment in global contexts. Her doctoral work on urban sanitation policymaking in Delhi earned a Public Service Award from the Dean of her graduate school.
Dr. Bhan has led large-scale evaluations in India, including projects on rural-urban migration health impacts and housing deprivation in Dhaka slums. She has collaborated with the World Bank and evidence-to-policy thinktanks, and her work appears in journals like Social Science & Medicine.
Her recent articles explore sanitation empowerment scales across Asia/Africa, menstrual health attitudes in Uganda, and mental health linkages to sanitation access. Awards include funding from the Vice Provost’s Office at UMass Boston.
She has mentored research teams in field operations and policy engagement, bridging academic research with practical implementation for marginalized populations.
