معرفی
Dr. Sheela Sinharoy is an Assistant Professor in the Hubert Department of Global Health at Emory University’s Rollins School of Public Health. She specializes in global health interventions focusing on nutrition, sanitation, and household air pollution. Her work emphasizes interdisciplinary approaches, program evaluation, and implementation science to improve health equity in low-resource settings.
Education:
- PhD in Public Health – Emory University
- MPH – University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill
- BAs in two disciplines – Pennsylvania State University
Research Interests:
Dr. Sinharoy’s research spans maternal and child health, water and sanitation infrastructure, and gender empowerment. She investigates how environmental exposures (e.g., air pollution from cooking fuels) and socioeconomic factors impact health outcomes in Latin America, Asia, Africa, and the Pacific. Her work often integrates quantitative and qualitative methods to evaluate interventions like clean cookstove programs and homestead food production initiatives.
Recent Article Trends:
Her recent work focuses on the health impacts of household air pollution, including fetal growth and infant stunting, and the intersection of water access with mental health outcomes during the pandemic. She has pioneered tools to measure women’s empowerment in sanitation and food security contexts.
Grants & Advising:
She leads the Household Air Pollution Intervention Network (HAPIN) trial and contributes to the Revitalising Informal Settlements and their Environments (RISE) initiative. These projects emphasize participatory design and community engagement in urban health interventions.
Labs/Teams:
Her team collaborates with global partners on projects addressing WASH (water, sanitation, hygiene), maternal health, and gender equity. Key partnerships include Emory’s Global Research for Women initiative and the NIH-funded HAPIN trial.
