Dana Barr is a Professor in the Gangarosa Department of Environmental Health at Emory University's Rollins School of Public Health. She holds roles as co-director of the Laboratory for Exposure Assessment and Development in Environmental Research (LEADER), Director of the Integrated Health Sciences and Facilities Core and Analytic Core of the HERCULES Exposome Research Center, and Director of the Biomarker Core for the HAPIN Trial. Her research focuses on exposure science, maternal-child health, and global environmental health issues.
Education: PhD from Georgia State University and BS from Brenau University. Affiliations include Deputy Editor of Environmental Health Perspectives and past leadership roles in the International Society of Exposure Science. She has been recognized as a Top Cited Scientist (2014–2016) and listed in the World’s Most Influential Scientific Minds (2014).
Research emphasizes biomarkers of chemical exposure, including PFAS, pesticides, and household pollutants. Key studies include investigations of prenatal exposures in Thailand's SAWASDEE cohort, health disparities in Atlanta’s African American maternal-child studies, and global trials evaluating clean-burning stove impacts on household air pollution. Her work spans analytical chemistry, epidemiology, and public health policy.
