Todd Everson is an Associate Professor at Emory University's Rollins School of Public Health (RSPH), with joint affiliations in the Department of Epidemiology and Gangarosa Department of Environmental Health. His research focuses on how early-life exposures and environmental factors influence epigenetic and transcriptomic regulatory programs, particularly in maternal and child health contexts. He leads the Everson Research Group, investigating molecular links between prenatal exposures and children's developmental outcomes. Dr. Everson is actively involved in large consortia such as the Pregnancy and Childhood Epigenetics (PACE) and Environmental Influences on Child Health Outcomes (ECHO) programs.
Education: MPH (Oregon Health & Science University), PhD (University of South Carolina), and BS (Colorado State University). He teaches EH 560 - Environmental Health 'Omics.
Research interests include epigenetics, environmental health, and the long-term impacts of prenatal exposures such as tobacco smoke, PFAS, and maternal diet. His work often combines omics data (e.g., DNA methylation, transcriptomics) with epidemiological methods to study mechanisms underlying health disparities.
Key projects include meta-analyses of placental DNA methylation in response to maternal smoking and PFAS exposure, development of epigenetic clocks for preterm infants, and studies on epigenetic predictors of neurodevelopmental outcomes. His NIH-funded work explores developmental trajectories and multi-omics interactions in preterm infants and children exposed to environmental hazards.
Labs/Teams: Everson Research Group, HERCULES Exposome Research Center. Collaborations span institutions like Children’s Lurie Hospital (Chicago) and international PACE Consortium partners.
