Susan Deaver

Susan Deaver is a Lecturer and Artist-in-Residence at Stony Brook University's Department of Music, serving as Conductor of the University Orchestra. She leads orchestral concerts at Staller Center, coordinates annual concerto competitions, and teaches conducting courses while coaching chamber music. With an international career spanning performances in Korea, Germany, British Columbia, and England, she has conducted numerous ensembles including the Washington Chamber Symphony, Seoul Symphony of New York, and South Korea's Masan City Symphony Orchestra.

Her expertise lies in contemporary music performance, having worked with the Group for Contemporary Music and New Music Consort. As a flutist, she served as Principal Flute at Washington Chamber Symphony for two decades and performed with prestigious orchestras including Royal Ballet and Broadway productions of Phantom of the Opera.

Dr. Deaver founded the Pierrot Chamber Music Festival and co-founded The Pierrot Consort. She has mentored actors for film roles requiring conducting skills, notably working with Freddie Highmore for August Rush (Warner Brothers).
