Susan E. Deaver serves as Adjunct Professor of Flute and Director of the Flute Ensemble at Long Island University's School of Performing Arts. She concurrently holds faculty positions at Stony Brook University (conducting the University Orchestra) and Manhattan School of Music's Precollege Division, and co-founded/directs the Pierrot Chamber Music Festival as flutist of The Pierrot Consort.
She earned her Bachelor of Music, Master of Music, and Doctor of Musical Arts in performance from Manhattan School of Music.
Dr. Deaver's expertise centers on flute performance, conducting, and chamber music. As principal flutist of the Washington Chamber Symphony (1981-2002), she performed at the Kennedy Center and with major orchestras including Long Island Philharmonic and Broadway's 'Phantom of the Opera'. Her 40+ year conducting career includes 25 years leading the North Shore Symphony Orchestra, developing LIU Post's orchestra from 11 to 70+ students, and founding the LIU Post Concerto Competition. She actively expands music education through New York Philharmonic residencies and all-county orchestra engagements.
Her honors include Bach Aria Festival and Tanglewood Music Festival fellowships, plus a Manhattan School of Music scholarship.
