Dr. Stella Mouroutsou is a Lecturer in Education at the University of Stirling, situated within the Faculty of Social Sciences and the Department of Education. She holds the role of Associate Dean for Internationalisation, guiding international initiatives within the faculty. Her teaching focuses on undergraduate modules for the BA/BSc (Hons) Education (Primary) programs, and she supervises master’s and doctoral students. Her research centers on inclusion, addressing the stigmatization and exclusion of children with marginalized identities, particularly in the context of education policy, teacher education, and early childhood education. She emphasizes Social, Emotional, and Behavioural Difficulties (SEBD) and equity through a social justice lens.
Dr. Mouroutsou is actively involved in professional networks, serving as Convenor of the Inclusive Education Network of the Scottish Educational Research Association (SERA) and a member of the Scottish Universities Inclusion Group (SUIG). She contributes to academic governance as a member of the Stirling Centre for Research into Curriculum Making (SCRCM) management team and the General University Ethics Panel (GUEP). Her external roles include external examining for the University of Edinburgh and University of Essex programs in pre-primary education.
Her research interests span inclusive education, education policy, early childhood education, teacher education, and equity. Key achievements include a PhD from the University of Glasgow (2017), prior experience as a primary and kindergarten teacher, and recognition as a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA). Her work often explores policy implementation complexities and cross-cultural comparisons, particularly in Scotland and Finland.
