Stefan Henning is a Lecturer in the Program in East Asian Studies at Johns Hopkins University, affiliated with the Krieger School of Arts & Sciences. He holds a PhD in anthropology and history from the University of Michigan (2005). His research focuses on Chinese history, Muslim societies in China, and religious activism. Prior to joining Johns Hopkins, he taught at Northwestern University for twelve years and held a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Oxford's Contemporary China Studies Programme. He is affiliated with the Hopkins-Nanjing Center, Center for Language Education, and The Alexander Grass Humanities Institute.
