Dr. Spencer Brand serves as Artist/Assistant Professor of Trumpet in the W.A. and Dorothy Hanna Department of Performing Arts at McNeese State University, teaching private trumpet lessons, brass chamber music coaching, and Music Appreciation courses while maintaining an active performance and composition career in Lake Charles, Louisiana.
His educational qualifications include a DMA and Master of Music in Trumpet Performance and Composition from Arizona State University, and a BMus in Trumpet Performance with Management Minor from the University of Minnesota.
Research centers on Czech trumpet repertoire, featuring interviews with Czech trumpet players and a catalogue of 200+ Czech solo trumpet works. Performance highlights include principal roles with MusicaNova Orchestra and Symphony of the Southwest, plus a 2018 Czech Republic tour with Prague Summer Nights Festival Orchestra. He actively participates in the International Trumpet Guild and Society of Composers, Inc.
Prior teaching positions include Glendale Community College (trumpet/music theory) and Mountain Ridge High School (brass coaching), alongside coordinatorship of the Young Artist Competition and staff arranging for Phoenix Brass Collective.
