Dr. Aaron Jensen serves as Assistant Professor of Trumpet at the Schwob School of Music, Columbus State University, following prior appointments at the University of Texas – Rio Grande Valley, Tarleton State University, the University of North Texas, and the University of Colorado at Boulder. His role encompasses performance instruction, mentorship, and service to the music community through national organizations.
His academic credentials include a Doctorate from the University of North Texas, a Master of Music from the University of Colorado at Boulder, a Bachelor of Music from Oklahoma State University, and an Associate of Science from Snow College. These qualifications reflect deep specialization in brass performance and pedagogy.
Dr. Jensen's professional focus spans trumpet performance, music technology innovation, brass ensemble leadership, and evidence-based pedagogy. As an active performer with the Session Brass Quintet and former founding member of Eastside Brass Octet and 956 Brass, he bridges artistic practice with technological application through album production and video engineering for institutions and artists including the Canadian Brass. His pedagogical approach emphasizes competition preparation and technical mastery, yielding student successes at national events.
His advising has produced award-winning students at the National Trumpet Competition and International Trumpet Guild conferences, with mentees earning honors including Outstanding Instrumentalist and Most Improved Instrumentalist. Service contributions include two-and-a-half years as International Trumpet Guild Video Coordinator and Assistant Host for the 2017 National Trumpet Competition.
Dr. Jensen maintains active performance affiliations with the Colorado Symphony Orchestra as substitute musician, alongside collaborations with Grammy-winning artists like The Indigo Girls, and participation in ensembles including the Valley Symphony Orchestra and Denver Pops Orchestra, demonstrating sustained artistic engagement across classical, jazz, and commercial genres.
