Andrew Bishop is an Assistant Professor of Trumpet at Iowa State University, where he contributes to the music department. He holds a BA in Music from Bethany College (2002), a BM in Trumpet Performance from Wichita State University (1998), and an MM in Trumpet Performance from the University of Missouri (2005). Before academia, he was Principal Trumpet of the Des Moines Symphony and has performed with major orchestras such as the Kansas City Symphony, Omaha Symphony, and Quad City Symphony.
Bishop’s career spans performance and pedagogy. He has held roles as Principal Trumpet with the Fort Collins Symphony, Colorado Bach Ensemble, and Opera Fort Collins. His research interests include music education and trumpet performance, reflected in his work as a lecturer and his music engraving business, TrptShallSound Publications. He founded the Andrew Bishop Orchestral Editions, producing modern editions of standard orchestral trumpet repertoire.
Awarded the MU Emerging Artist Award and recognized in concerto competitions, Bishop has also been a featured soloist at the International Trumpet Guild Convention. His chamber music affiliations include the Apollo Chamber Brass and Boulder Brass. Beyond academia, he is an arranger and enthusiast of cribbage and baseball, maintaining a lifelong loyalty to the St. Louis Cardinals.
