Scott Thornburg

Scott Thornburg is a Professor of Trumpet at the Irving S. Gilmore School of Music, Western Michigan University. He has been affiliated with the university since 1989 and is a member of the Western Brass Quintet and Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra. His professional career includes principal trumpet roles with orchestras such as the New York City Symphony, Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, and Orchestra of St. Luke’s, alongside international touring with groups like Toccatas and Flourishes and the New York Chamber Soloists.

Education: M.M., Juilliard; B.M., University of Miami (Florida).

Research & Performance: Thornburg specializes in trumpet performance, chamber music, and orchestral collaboration. He has recorded extensively, including a 2003 release with pianist Silvia Roederer and the upcoming 2014 album For Then and Now with the Western Brass Quintet. His work spans classical repertoire and cross-genre collaborations, with performances at venues like the Caramoor Festival and Bay View Music Festival.
