John Kilgore is an Assistant Professor of Trumpet at Kansas State University (KSU) and Principal Trumpet of the Boise Philharmonic. He teaches graduate and undergraduate trumpet majors, directs trumpet ensembles, and performs with the KSU Faculty Brass Quintet. His career spans orchestral, chamber, and commercial music roles, including engagements with Ballet Idaho, CINE Concerts, and the Blue Lake Festival Orchestra.

Kilgore's scholarly contributions include original research on classical trumpeter Philip Collins, presented at the 2022 International Trumpet Guild Conference. His work emphasizes practical strategies for chamber ensembles and historical analysis of professional trumpet careers.
As an adjudicator, Kilgore has served for the Music Teacher National Association Young Artist Brass Competition and the Sphinx Organization Orchestral Partners Auditions. He founded the KSU Trumpet Guild ITG Affiliate Chapter and holds leadership roles in music education organizations like NACWPI.
Kilgore is actively involved in youth development at the Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp and regularly presents masterclasses at institutions such as the University of Missouri Kansas City and Ithaca College. His performance career includes past roles with the West Virginia Symphony and Florida's Ocala Symphony Orchestra.
