William G. Rose serves as Associate Professor of Music and Assistant Department Head in the W.A. and Dorothy Hanna Department of Performing Arts at McNeese State University. His teaching portfolio includes directing the low brass studio, McNeese Alphorn Ensemble, brass choir, and jazz ensemble, while also instructing jazz improvisation, music theory, and music technology. He has served as Musical Director for music theater productions and maintains active conducting roles across regional orchestras.
Professor Rose's expertise spans brass performance (specializing in trombone and alphorn), jazz pedagogy, and large-scale composition. His research manifests through over 500 commissioned works for diverse ensembles including ballet, orchestra, theater, and brass choirs. As a clinician, he regularly presents at premier international conferences such as the International Trombone Association Festival, International Horn Society Festival, and New York Brass Conference, with additional engagements at regional festivals nationwide.
His distinguished contributions have earned recognition through:

In leadership capacities, Professor Rose mentors students through ensemble direction and studio instruction while serving as Conductor and Artistic Director for the Lake Charles Symphony (recently appointed after 30+ years as Principal Trombone). He continues his 39-year tenure as Principal Trombone for the Rapides Symphony Orchestra and provides artistic guidance for theatrical productions across Southwest Louisiana.
He actively shapes brass education through the Northwest Alphorn Workshop (as instructor/composer) and Midwest Alphorn Retreat (as assistant instructor/composer-in-residence), while contributing to the North American Alphorn Retreat as conductor and performer.
