David Collins is a Professor and Head of Wind, Brass & Percussion at the Royal Irish Academy of Music (RIAM). A native of Co. Kildare, he holds advanced qualifications including an MMus in Trumpet from RIAM (Distinction). His professional engagements include regular performances with the Irish Chamber Orchestra, RTÉ National Symphony, and RTÉ Concert Orchestra. He has served as Second Trumpet & Principal Cornet with the Ulster Orchestra (2016–2018) and performed with the World Orchestra for Peace.

His expertise spans orchestral performance, brass pedagogy, and solo trumpet work, highlighted by concerto performances of Haydn, Vivaldi, Neruda, and Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No. 2. He coaches the trumpet sections of the National Youth Orchestra of Ireland and Irish Youth Wind Ensemble.
As Artistic Director of Dublin Brass Week, he promotes international brass music festivals. He serves on the Board of the National Youth Orchestra of Ireland and the International Trumpet Guild, and co-hosted the 2021 Ellsworth Smith International Trumpet Solo Competition.
