Aedín Halpin has been a recorder teacher at the Royal Irish Academy of Music (RIAM) since 1991. She holds a BA (Mod) in Single Honors Music from Trinity College Dublin (1989), an LTCL performance diploma in recorder, and ARIAM diplomas in flute and piano. Her academic affiliation includes the Wind, Brass & Percussion school and the Historical Performance department.
Her professional career emphasizes Baroque music performance, including concerto appearances with orchestras like the RTE Concert Orchestra, Dublin Baroque Players, and the Orchestra of St Cecilia. Notable performances include Vivaldi, Telemann, and Sammartini concertos, as well as roles in Bach’s St Matthew Passion, Monteverdi’s L’Orfeo, and Charpentier’s Messe de Minuit pour Noel. She has premiered contemporary works such as John Buckley’s Fantasia No. 1 and Fergus Johnston’s Psyche and Opus Lepidoptera.
Aedín’s teaching spans beginner to advanced levels (BMusEd and BMus Performance degrees). She serves as an examiner for RIAM and adjudicator, specializing in recorder chamber music and early music ensemble performance.
