Makiko Kurabayashi is a Lecturer in Baroque Bassoon and Chamber Music at Mozarteum University Salzburg since 2009, specializing in historical performance practice on period instruments. She also serves as a lecturer at the Austria Baroque Akademie in Gmunden.
Her research focuses on Early Music Performance and Baroque Bassoon techniques, with expertise spanning Historical Performance Practice, Chamber Music, and Dulcian Studies. Her work bridges historical authenticity with contemporary performance standards through extensive collaboration with leading baroque ensembles.
Her recorded output demonstrates significant contributions to Baroque repertoire interpretation, particularly in collaborative concertos featuring recorder-bassoon combinations and solo works by Telemann, Handel, and Michael Haydn. These recordings showcase her mastery of period instrument techniques within historically informed performance frameworks.
As an educator, she mentors students in specialized historical performance techniques while maintaining an active international performing career.
