Sophia Bauer is a researcher affiliated with the Department of Economic and Social History at the University of Vienna. She holds a PhD candidate status (since 2021) and has served as a Praedoc Assistent from May to October 2024. Her research focuses on the history of anatomy in the 18th to early 20th centuries, anatomical teaching practices, material history, and scientific networks. She has conducted projects funded by OeAD (WTZ-Grant UA 2023/01) and collaborated with the Medical University of Vienna.
Education: PhD in History (in progress), MA in History (2021, University of Vienna), Diploma in Medicine (2018–2021, Medical University of Vienna), BA in History (2018, University of Vienna), and BA in Architecture (2013–2014, Technical University of Vienna).
Research highlights include analyzing anatomical teaching practices at the University of Vienna (1848–1914) and examining transnational scientific networks via the case of Henryk Kadyi. Her publications explore censorship's impact on anatomy textbooks and the evolution of anatomical education in Vienna.
She received the University of Vienna’s Merit-based Scholarship (2020/21) and contributes to the journal Historische Anthropologie as editorial staff.
