Corinna Peres is a Researcher and former Universitätsassistentin (Praedoc) at the University of Vienna's Department of Economic and Social History. She specialized in Late Medieval and Early Modern Mediterranean history, with a focus on slavery, labour systems, and gender dynamics. Her work integrates historical semantics and archival analysis, particularly using the extensive Datini merchant correspondence.
Education: MA in History and Romance Philology (Italian, Ruhr-University Bochum, 2016); BA in History and Romance Philology (Ruhr-University Bochum/University of Pisa, 2012). Praedoc (PhD candidate) at University of Vienna since November 2019, completing her thesis on enslaved women in the Datini merchant community in April 2024.
Research interests include Mediterranean slavery, labour coercion, historical semantics of social roles, and gendered experiences in premodern societies. She co-edited the book Coercion and Wage Labour (2024) and curated an exhibition on the same topic. Active in research networks like COST Action WORCK (Public Outreach Coordinator 2020–2024) and the University of Vienna's 'Figurations of Inequality' group.
Teaching focuses on medieval Mediterranean slavery, historical source analysis, and digital methods. Courses taught include 'Slavery in the Mediterranean (1350–1750)' and workshops on Datini archives. Her publications blend scholarly articles with innovative data storytelling and public outreach.
