Dr. Sid Frankel is an Associate Professor at the University of Manitoba's Faculty of Social Work. He holds a PhD from UC Berkeley (1991), MSW (1983) and BSW (1974) from University of Manitoba. His research program examines poverty reduction through basic income frameworks and nonprofit sector dynamics.
Research interests include population health promotion, voluntary sector operations, social policy analysis, and research methodology. Recent work investigates pandemic impacts on social services and income security reforms.
Dr. Frankel actively supervises graduate students with recent theses exploring refugee resilience, brain injury care access, and moral distress in social work. Service contributions include steering committees for Campaign 2000 to End Child Poverty and Basic Income Manitoba.
