Dr. Ties Boerma is a Professor in the Department of Community Health Sciences at the Max Rady College of Medicine, University of Manitoba. He holds the Canada Research Chair for Population and Global Health and serves as Director of the Countdown to 2030 initiative. With over 35 years of experience in global public health, Dr. Boerma has worked with the World Health Organization and led research programs across Africa.
Education includes:
- PhD in Medical Demography, University of Amsterdam (1996)
- MSc in Medical Demography, University of Groningen (1983)
- MD, University of Groningen (1982)
Research focuses on three primary themes: measurement of universal health coverage progress towards Sustainable Development Goals; strengthening reproductive and child health programs in low-income countries; and assessing mortality in conflict/disaster settings. His work combines demographic surveillance with health systems evaluation.
Recent publications demonstrate persistent focus on health equity measurement, maternal-child health interventions, and global health policy analysis. Article keywords frequently include health systems evaluation, mortality metrics, and equity assessment.
