Shannon Gunn is an Adjunct Professor of Jazz Trombone at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU), Director of the NOVA Nighthawks Jazz Ensemble, and a renowned freelance jazz trombonist. She actively uses her music for social justice causes, co-founding the Jazz and Freedom Festival (2015) and founding the non-profit Jazz4Justice to bridge the legal and music communities for Legal Aid and jazz studies funding. In 2019, she founded Jazz Girls Day DC to empower young women in jazz.
