Shafiullah Anis serves as an Assistant Lecturer at the Malaysia School of Business, Monash University Malaysia. His academic work bridges marketing, political economy, and cultural studies with a particular focus on how political ideologies intersect with consumer behavior and market practices.
Dr. Anis holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Business and Commerce from Monash University Malaysia (2021), with research focusing on The Marketization of Religio-Nationalist Political Ideology and Consumption, and an MBA in Marketing (2012).
His research interests center on Consumer Culture Theory, Discourse Analysis, Politicized Consumption, and the Market and Society relationship. Anis examines how political ideologies, particularly populism and religious nationalism, shape consumption patterns and marketing practices in Southeast Asia and South Asia, with special attention to Malaysia and India.
His recent publications reveal a strong trajectory examining the intersection of politics and consumption, with increasing focus on AI's role in marketing research and practice. His work spans femvertising controversies, political consumerism, religious marketing, and algorithmic bias in marketing applications, demonstrating both theoretical depth and practical relevance to contemporary market challenges.
Among his notable recognitions are the Dean's Honour (2022), Academic Medal for Excellence in Graduate Coursework Study (2022), and the Business and Society-Best Paper Award - Special Mention (2024). He has also received Purple Letters for teaching excellence in literature review and AI in marketing courses.
As an active academic, Anis serves as a peer reviewer for journals including Business & Society, Journal of Consumer Behaviour, and Organization. He has contributed to workshops on AI-assisted qualitative research and provided expert commentary to media outlets on topics including AI ethics, femvertising, and political consumption.
