معرفی
Sendurai Mani is the Dean's Professor of Translational Oncology and Professor of Medicine at Brown University’s Warren Alpert Medical School. His research focuses on the epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT), cancer stem cells, and tumor metastasis. He has made groundbreaking contributions, including demonstrating that EMT generates cells with stem cell properties (Mani et al., Cell 2008), linking EMT to metastasis, and developing tools for targeting mesenchymal cancers.
- PhD, Indian Institute of Science (2000)
- MS, Madurai Kamaraj University (1993)
- BS, Madurai Kamaraj University (1991)
Mani’s research interests center on molecular mechanisms of cancer progression, particularly how EMT enables metastasis, therapeutic resistance, and tumor cell plasticity. His lab investigates:
- EMT-driven cancer stem cell generation
- Immune-tumor cell interactions in metastasis
- Therapeutic strategies for hybrid EMT phenotypes
- Single-cell profiling of tumor heterogeneity
- Development of EMT/CSC biomarkers
- Novel approaches to target mesenchymal cancers
His publications (115+ articles) reflect cutting-edge work in EMT, cancer stem cells, and tumor immunology. Recent studies include functional single-cell analysis of extracellular vesicles in breast cancer and pan-cancer EMT gene profiling (EMTome resource).
Scientific awards and honors include:
- V-Scholar (2008-2011)
- MD Anderson Research Trust Fellow (2008-2014)
- American Cancer Society Research Scholar (2012-2015)
- AAAS Fellow (2020-present)
- Sigma Xi Full Member (2021-present)
Mani serves as:
- Director, Translational Research Disease Groups at Brown
- Director, Stem Cell Center at Brown
- Co-leader of the Mani Lab at Brown University
