Sendurai A. Mani is the Deans Endowed Professor of Translational Oncology and Professor of Medicine at Brown University's Alpert Medical School. His research focuses on understanding the molecular mechanisms underlying cancer metastasis, tumor progression, and the role of epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) in cancer stem cell formation. He leads the Mani Lab, which employs cutting-edge techniques such as single-cell transcriptomics and genomic approaches to study tumor heterogeneity and identify novel therapeutic targets.
Dr. Mani's work has significantly advanced our understanding of how EMT enables cancer cells to become invasive and metastatic. His lab investigates the interplay between EMT, cancer stem cells, and immune cells in tumor microenvironments. Key areas of research include developing early detection markers for EMT/CSC properties in circulating tumor cells and exploring therapeutic strategies targeting mesenchymal cancers.
He collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to bridge basic science and clinical applications, aiming to translate discoveries into effective treatments. The lab's findings have been published in high-impact journals like Cell and Science, and his work has influenced global perspectives on cancer metastasis and tumor plasticity.
Dr. Mani is affiliated with Brown's Department of Medicine and Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, reflecting his commitment to advancing translational oncology. His research also extends to studying hybrid epithelial/mesenchymal phenotypes and their role in therapeutic resistance.
