معرفی
Robert A. Weinberg is the Daniel K. Ludwig Professor for Cancer Research and a Core Member at the Whitehead Institute for Biomedical Research, affiliated with MIT. His research focuses on cancer metastasis, cancer stem cells, and molecular mechanisms underlying epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT). He holds a PhD (1969) and SB in Biology (1964) from MIT.
Educations:
- PhD in Biology, MIT, 1969
- SB in Biology, MIT, 1964
Research Interests:
His work investigates how cancer cells metastasize, the role of EMT in cancer stem cell properties, and molecular regulators of metastasis. Key areas include understanding tumor microenvironment interactions, immunosuppressive mechanisms in breast carcinomas, and therapeutic resistance.
Recent Publications Trends:
Recent studies emphasize EMT's role in metastasis, cancer stem cell plasticity, and developing immunotherapies for ovarian cancer. He has identified critical genes (e.g., Twist, p63/p73) and pathways (e.g., GLIS2 signaling) driving metastatic colonization and therapeutic resistance.
Awards & Honors:
- Japan Prize (2021)
- Salk Institute Medal (2016)
- Breakthrough Prize in Life Sciences (2013)
- Wolf Prize (2004)
- National Medal of Science (1997)
- Member of the National Academy of Sciences (1985)
Advising & Grants:
He has mentored numerous researchers and led grants focused on EMT, cancer stem cells, and metastasis. His work bridges molecular oncology with clinical applications in combination immunotherapy and targeted therapies.
Labs & Collaborations:
Led the Whitehead Institute's cancer biology group, collaborating on projects like genetically defined mouse models for ovarian cancer and CRISPR-based screens to identify metastasis regulators.
