Saskia E. Wieringa is a Professor and Chair of Gender and Women's Same-Sex Relations Crossculturally at the University of Amsterdam. She is also the chair of the Foundation International People's Tribunal 1965, focusing on addressing crimes against humanity related to Indonesia's 1965 army-led coup.
Research Interests: Her work centers on sexual politics in Indonesia, women's empowerment, global same-sex relations, and transitional justice mechanisms for post-conflict societies. She advocates for retributive and restorative justice approaches to reconcile Indonesia's 1965-66 anti-communist massacres.
Publications: Her articles analyze Indonesia's historical trauma, emphasizing truth-finding, victim rehabilitation, and institutional accountability.
