Dr. Sarah Tomasetti is a Lecturer in the School of Art at RMIT University and co-lead of the Painting Area. She specializes in medieval material technologies such as fresco and stucco lucido, with a technical qualification from Laboratorio Tintori, Italy. Her doctoral research explores the entanglement of art practice with the living world through slaked lime’s material properties. She has exhibited extensively in solo and group shows, including Sediments and Atmospheres (2025) and curated Rituals of Embodied Knowing (2023). Her work addresses mountain imaginaries and environmental relations, blending art with ecological and cultural narratives.
Education: PhD in Fine Art (2023, RMIT), MA in Fine Art by Research (1999, RMIT), Professional Qualification in Fresco Techniques (1995, Laboratorio Tintori, Italy). She also holds a Graduate Diploma in Italian Studies (La Trobe University) and a Bachelor of Fine Art (1988, Victoria College).
Research interests include material agencies, environmental art, and subjugated knowledges. Notable residencies include the 2024 Kenneth Myer Residency in New Zealand and an ARC-funded project in Uttarakhand (2019). Awards include the 2020 John Leslie Prize for Landscape and multiple shortlistings in major art prizes.
