Dr. Sandra L. Bloom is an Associate Professor in Health Management and Policy at Drexel University’s Dornsife School of Public Health. She holds an MD from Temple University School of Medicine and a BA in Psychology from Gettysburg College. Her career spans over four decades, including founding the Sanctuary Model, a trauma-informed organizational framework implemented in over 350 organizations globally. She has led the Philadelphia ACEs Task Force since 2012 and co-founded the Center for Nonviolence and Social Justice. Dr. Bloom’s research focuses on violence and trauma, public health, substance use, and healthcare administration. She served as past president of the International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies and chairs the Campaign for Trauma-Informed Policy and Practice (CTIPP). Notable awards include the APA’s 2019 Distinguished Service Award. Her work emphasizes systemic change, trauma-responsive leadership, and community engagement.
Publications highlight organizational trauma interventions, moral safety frameworks, and policy advocacy. Her book Creating Sanctuary remains a cornerstone of trauma-informed care. Current roles include principal investigator at the Center for Hunger-Free Communities and founder of Creating Presence, an online trauma-informed platform.
