Robert I. Field is a Professor of Health Management and Policy at Drexel University’s Dornsife School of Public Health and holds a joint appointment as Professor of Law at the Kline School of Law. He is also a Provost Solutions Fellow at Drexel, a lecturer at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, and a senior fellow at the Leonard Davis Institute of Health Economics. His expertise spans health care regulation, public health law, and policy implications of emerging technologies like genetic databases.
Field earned a PhD in Psychology from Boston University, an MPH from Harvard University, a JD from Columbia Law School, and an AB from Harvard College. His interdisciplinary background informs his research, which addresses ethical issues in vaccines, health reform’s structural impacts, and the role of government in shaping healthcare systems.
He has authored two major books: *Mother of Invention* (Oxford, 2014), analyzing government’s foundational role in free-market healthcare, and *Health Care Regulation in America* (Oxford, 2007). His scholarly work appears in journals like the University of Pennsylvania Law Review, *Vaccine*, and *Health Affairs*. Field frequently contributes to media discussions on health policy, including op-eds for the *Philadelphia Inquirer* and appearances on NPR and CNN.
Field has held leadership roles, including founding and chairing the Department of Health Policy and Public Health at the University of Sciences in Philadelphia, and directing public policy research at Cigna Corporation. His research interests emphasize the intersection of law, ethics, and public health, with a focus on systemic reform and evidence-based policy.
