Jennie Noll, PhD, is a Professor of Psychology and Executive Director of the Mount Hope Family Center (MHFC) at the University of Rochester. She leads MHFC’s mission to integrate cutting-edge research into clinical services for at-risk children and families, focusing on trauma-responsive interventions and health equity. With $32M NIH funding as PI, her work examines the biopsychosocial impacts of child maltreatment and prevention strategies. Previously, she founded Penn State’s child maltreatment center, securing the first NIH Center of Excellence in this field. Her research spans adverse childhood experiences (ACEs), epigenetic biomarkers of trauma, and policy translation. Noll emphasizes community-driven solutions to address systemic inequities in mental health access, leveraging federal partnerships with schools, pediatric providers, and child welfare agencies.
Her research portfolio includes landmark studies on childhood sexual abuse prevention, neighborhood ACE indices, and intergenerational trauma transmission. She pioneered parent-focused prevention programs evaluated through randomized trials, demonstrating scalable solutions. Noll’s work bridges clinical practice and policy, advocating for trauma-informed urban design and evidence-based legislation. Over $72M in federal research funding supports her team’s innovations in training future scholars and disseminating evidence-based practices internationally.
Key initiatives include MHFC’s trauma-responsive home-visiting programs, cost analyses of school-based interventions, and longitudinal cohort studies tracking epigenetic aging markers linked to maltreatment. She collaborates with diverse stakeholders to strengthen child protection systems and reduce disparities in outcomes for marginalized communities. Noll’s vision combines rigorous science with actionable policies to create safer, healthier environments for children and families.
