Samuel J. Watson is a Professor in the Department of History at the United States Military Academy at West Point. He earned his BA from Indiana University and MA/PhD from Rice University, and has taught at multiple institutions including Houston Community College, Texas Southern University, and the University of St. Thomas. At West Point, he has directed the senior thesis program since 2013, taught over 25 courses, and led 25+ staff rides. His work spans military history, borderlands studies, and digital education.

His research focuses on American military history, diplomatic roles of the U.S. Army officer corps in borderlands/frontiers, and digital technology applications in historical education. He co-authored award-winning works including the West Point History series and Jackson's Sword.
