Ryan Meyer

Ryan Meyer is an Assistant Professor of Digital Media & Graphic Design at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), Department of Digital Media & Graphic Design. He holds a B.F.A. from UAB and an M.F.A. from the University of California, Davis. His research focuses on technology’s impact on mind/body/environment, with exhibitions nationally and internationally. Meyer has over a decade of commercial arts experience in branding, creative direction, and storytelling for institutions like Shipt and UAB.

Education: B.F.A., UAB (2014); M.F.A., UC Davis (2018). Teaching roles include adjunct positions at Birmingham Southern College and Samford University. Key awards include the 2022 Alabama State Council on the Arts Fellowship and multiple Freemon Gadberry Awards.

Research interests span digital media art, graphic design, ecology, and the Anthropocene. Notable works include Electromagnetic Field Gothic (2025) and POSTERIOR (2019). He has been featured in exhibitions at Ground Floor Contemporary and the Samford University Art Gallery. Residencies include the Arctic Residency (2017). His art explores themes like ruderality and decay through data visualization and storytelling.

Labs/Teams: Collaborates with the Ground Floor Contemporary Gallery and UAB’s Art Lab Gallery. Grants include the 2025 UAB Faculty Development Grant.
