Roemer van Toorn is a Professor of Architectural Theory at the Umeå School of Architecture, Umeå University. His research focuses on architecture's role in emancipation, ecology, and cosmopolitical frameworks, emphasizing radical hospitality and Thirdspace theory. Van Toorn holds a PhD from the Estonian Academy of Arts (2022) and a dual background in architecture and engineering from TU Delft. He leads the PhD program at UMA and coordinates initiatives like the 'Relational Architecture' lecture series. His work bridges theory and practice through publications, exhibitions, and international collaborations.
