Pier Vittorio Aureli

Pier Vittorio Aureli is an Associate Professor at École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), where he directs the Laboratory for Theory and Project of Domestic Space (TPOD). He holds academic roles in the School of Architecture, Civil and Environmental Engineering (ENAC), including Director of IA-GE and membership in ENAC’s School Direction. His teaching focuses on architectural history, theory, and design studios, with courses such as History of Architecture III/IV, Architecture and Monasticism, and The Origins of Domestic Space.

A graduate of the Istituto Universitario di Architettura di Venezia (IUAV), Berlage Institute, and TU Delft (PhD), Aureli has taught at institutions including the Architectural Association, Yale, and Columbia. His research explores architectural theory, urban design, and domestic space, reflected in over ten authored/co-authored books. Collaborating with Dogma (founded with Martino Tattara), he investigates large-scale urban projects and domestic spatial transformation.

Key publications include The Project of Autonomy (2008), Loveless (2019), and Platform (2021). He also practices painting, with a 2017 exhibition at London’s Betts Project gallery. Aureli serves on EPFL’s PhD program committee for Architecture and Sciences of the City and actively participates in academic governance through ENAC’s administrative committees.
