Rodolphe Durand is the Joly Family Professor of Purposeful Leadership at HEC Paris and a Visiting Professor at the Saïd Business School, University of Oxford. He is the founder and academic director of the Society and Organizations Institute (S&O), established in 2009. His academic affiliations include visiting roles at UCLA, NYU Stern, London Business School, and Cambridge University’s Judge Business School, alongside a visiting scholar position at Harvard Business School.
His research focuses on the normative and cognitive dimensions of organizational performance, particularly addressing environmental and social challenges faced by firms. Key themes include corporate social responsibility, purpose-driven leadership, and the economic advantages of strategic alignment with societal values. Durand’s work bridges strategic management, organizational theory, and sustainability.
His publications integrate interdisciplinary perspectives, including Organizational Evolution and Strategic Management (2006), The Pirate Organization (2013, co-authored with JP Vergne), and A Broader Vision of Business (2022). These works explore topics ranging from capitalism’s evolution to the role of purpose in organizational resilience.
