Marc Ventresca is an Associate Professor of Strategic Management at the Saïd Business School, University of Oxford, and a Governing Body Fellow at Wolfson College. His expertise spans market and network formation, innovation strategy, governance, and entrepreneurship. Trained in sociology and political philosophy, his research emphasizes markets as political and cultural institutions rather than self-organizing entities.
Education: BA in Political Science/Political Philosophy, two MAs in Education Policy and Sociology, and a PhD in Political and Organizational Sociology, all from Stanford University. Previously taught at Northwestern University's Kellogg School of Management and held visiting roles at institutions including Copenhagen Business School and Stanford University.
Research interests include market-building, governance innovation diffusion, and the intersection of technology strategy with societal challenges. Key areas include space industry ecosystems, frugal innovation, and systems change for sustainability. He leads initiatives like the Science Innovation Plus program, fostering collaboration between Oxford’s science and business schools.
Teaching focuses on strategy implementation, innovation, and organizational theory across MBA, EMBA, and executive education programs.
