Riccardo Scarpa is a Full Professor at the University of Verona's Department of Management, specializing in Agricultural and Food Economics. He holds an academic position within the Faculty of Management and has been affiliated with the University since 2014. His career includes roles as a researcher at the University of Tuscia, lecturer at the University of Newcastle, senior lecturer at the University of York, and endowed chair at Queen's University Belfast. He also teaches postgraduate courses at the University of Waikato, New Zealand, and Durham University, UK.
Education: BSc (1988), MSc from University College of Wales, Aberystwyth (1990), MA in Agricultural Economics via a Fulbright Scholarship at University of Wisconsin-Madison (1995), and a Ph.D. in Forest and Natural Resources Economics (1999).
Research focuses on consumer behavior, rural environment economics, econometric methods, and sustainable practices in agri-food systems. He leads the Agri-food System Research Group, which develops tools for sustainable supply chain management. Current projects include AQUABALANCE (aquaculture sustainability) and SustaIn4Food (Veneto agro-food sustainability).
Teaching includes master's courses on wine supply chains, business management in viticulture, and quantitative research methods for PhD students. He is involved in interdisciplinary initiatives like the LOOP Research Center for Circular Economy and Sustainability.
