Reinhard Jahn is a Professor at the University of Göttingen and Director of the Department of Neurobiology at the Max Planck Institute for Biophysical Chemistry. His work focuses on molecular mechanisms of membrane traffic, exocytosis, and synaptic transmission, particularly through the study of SNARE proteins and membrane fusion. With a PhD from the University of Göttingen (1981) and academic positions at institutions like Yale University and The Rockefeller University, his career spans both academic and research leadership roles.
His research has significantly advanced understanding of neurotransmitter uptake and storage, synaptic transmission, and the molecular anatomy of trafficking organelles. The field of neuroscience has been enriched by his studies on SNARE complex dynamics and NSF/ATP-driven processes.
