Randy Adams serves as Professor of Trumpet in the School of Music at Sam Houston State University, a position he has held since 1993. He maintains an active performance career as a member of the Houston Grand Opera Orchestra since 1984, Houston Ballet Orchestra, and previously with Theatre Under the Stars for 12 years.
His artistic practice spans trumpet performance across orchestral, Broadway musical theater, and European folk traditions. He has significantly contributed to sacred music through over 200 hymn arrangements and choral anthems, while actively composing for brass ensembles and educational materials through RadBrass Music and SHSU trumpet ensembles.
Professor Adams has mentored trumpet students who consistently achieve national recognition, including top-five placements in the National Trumpet Competition's Ensemble division. His graduates perform with major orchestras like Houston Symphony and Dallas Symphony, appear on Broadway productions, and hold faculty positions in leading Texas school music programs.
He directs SHSU trumpet ensembles and performs with his own ensemble Auf Geht's Musik throughout Texas and surrounding regions, maintaining strong community engagement through church music at St. Cuthbert Episcopal Church in Houston.
